Capital.com secures UAE crypto license, plans spot trading services. Here’s what it means for investors and the region’s digital asset growth.
Capital.com will launch spot crypto trading in the UAE after its affiliate, CXM Direct, secured a license from the Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (VARA). The move positions the global trading platform to tap into the UAE’s growing digital asset market, offering regulated services to local investors.

Capital.com’s affiliate, CXM Direct, received a Virtual Asset Service Provider (VASP) license from VARA. This allows the group to offer spot crypto trading services in Dubai’s virtual asset ecosystem. The license covers broker-dealer and custodial services, enabling Capital.com to expand its product range beyond derivatives.
Capital.com already operates in the UAE through its CFD trading platform but will now introduce direct crypto trading. The company did not specify a launch date but confirmed preparations are underway.
The UAE has become a hub for crypto and blockchain companies, with Dubai and Abu Dhabi leading regulatory efforts. VARA, established in 2022, oversees virtual asset activities in Dubai, while Abu Dhabi’s ADGM has its own framework. These regulations aim to attract global players while ensuring investor protection.
In 2023, the UAE accounted for 10% of global crypto transaction volume, according to Chainalysis. The country’s clear regulatory environment and tax incentives have drawn firms like Binance, Bybit, and OKX to set up regional headquarters.
| Platform | License Type | Services Offered | UAE Presence |
|---|---|---|---|
| Capital.com (CXM Direct) | VARA VASP | Spot trading, brokerage, custody | Dubai (planned) |
| Binance | VARA MVP | Spot, futures, staking | Dubai |
| Bybit | VARA MVP | Spot, derivatives, P2P | Dubai |
| OKX | VARA MVP | Spot, futures, DeFi | Dubai |
Capital.com’s entry adds competition to the UAE’s crypto market, giving investors more regulated options. The platform’s focus on spot trading could appeal to those preferring direct asset ownership over derivatives. However, fees, supported coins, and user experience will determine its success against established players.
VARA’s licensing process includes strict compliance checks, meaning Capital.com must meet anti-money laundering (AML) and know-your-customer (KYC) standards. This aligns with the UAE’s goal of balancing innovation with financial security.
Capital.com’s move signals confidence in the UAE’s regulatory framework. Other international trading platforms may accelerate their licensing applications, especially as the country positions itself as a global crypto hub. The UAE’s zero-tax policy for personal crypto gains remains a major draw.
For now, Capital.com joins a growing list of licensed firms, but the market remains competitive. Binance and Bybit dominate trading volumes, while local exchanges like BitOasis continue to expand. Capital.com’s challenge will be differentiating its services in a crowded field.
